Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday described the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal a strategic mistake and noted that it will harm the country's interests.

If Iran's interests are secured without the US presence in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), it's all right, but if not, the Islamic Republic will adopt a different decision, the President said in a local ceremony.

He noted that if the US makes a mistake, it will regret for what is has done later on and will know that it has made a strategic mistake.

The President referred to Washington's efforts to limit the Islamic Republic's power in the region, and said that the Iranian nation will resist against the US powerfully.

President Rouhani said that Iran has proved the peaceful nature of its civilian nuclear program, adding that the UN Security Council does not support the US' possible withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

The US administration has done a great deal during the past years to kill Iran nuclear deal.

Trump is expected to announce his decision regarding suspending sanctions against Iran and continuing the implementation of the JCPOA on May 12.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already confirmed ten times Iran's commitment to the landmark July 2015 international deal.
