Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for the Indian capital of New Delhi late on Sunday.

'During this visit the foreign minister will exchange views with the senior Indian officials on the latest regional and international developments,' Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Sunday night.

Tehran and New Delhi have considerably expanded their relations in recent years. The two countries are cooperating in different political and economic domains, especially in the fields of energy and transit of goods.

During President Hassan Rouhani's last year visit to India, the two sides signed 15 cooperation pacts and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to deepen the two countries' cooperation.
