Zarif: JCPOA meetings still underway

Politics - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said meetings with different countries to discuss Iran nuclear deal are still underway.

Zarif made the remarks Monday upon his arrival at New Delhi airport.

Commenting on his visit to New Delhi, he said Iran has good relations with India and the two sides have so far held regular talks.

Referring to his recent meeting with Indian foreign minister in Iran, he said, 'Due to US act of withdrawing from Iran deal, we need to have more consultations with New Delhi these days.'

'Thanks to India status as Iran’s political and economic partner in the region, we have organized the meeting with Indian officials in different governmental sectors,' Zarif said.

He also pointed to his meeting with Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on JCPOA and US illegal act of walking away the deal.

Ways to safeguard both countries economic interests will be reviewed by the two sides and grounds will be prepared for developing cooperation between Tehran and News Delhi, said the Iranian foreign minister.

Zarif expressed hope for relations to increase since both countries enjoy cooperation in different fields especially in energy.

He went on to say that Iran and India have good cooperation in trade and transportation sectors.

According to IRNA correspondent, Zarif is leading a delegation of economic and political officials during his one-day stay in the Indian capital.

He is scheduled to meet with a number of Indian officials to discuss the latest regional and international developments following the US exist from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

His India visit is in line with Iran's overall dynamic diplomacy to outline Tehran's views and policies regarding the nuclear deal signed with six world countries in 2015.

After the US withdrawal from the agreement three weeks ago, Zarif made similar visits to Russia, China and Brussels which host the EU headquarters.
