Managing Director of Russian Railways Sergey Pavlov said on Saturday that Garmsar-Incheboron railway electrification project will begin as of Monday.

Pavlov made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei.

He said that launching the project will be a prelude to promotion of future cooperation between the two countries in railway area.

Electrifying Garmsar-Incheboron is a joint plan by Iran and Russia which will be implemented by $1.2 billion finance from Russia.

The railway is 430 km long and its electrification project will be completed within four years.

The railway crosses the Iranian province of Mazandaran and links Iran to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
