Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif on Sunday sent an official letter to his Russian, Kazakh, Azeri and Turkmen counterparts concurrent with inking of the Caspian Legal Regime Convention by the five leaders of the littoral states in Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Sunday.

Zarif's letter reads that the Islamic Republic of Iran reminds the rules and provisions of the 1921 contract between Iran and Russian Socialist Federative Republic and also the 1940 trade and sailing agreement between Iran and former Soviet Union.

The letter criticized that the Caspian Legal Regime Convention does not specify the limits of the Sea bed and sub-Seabed and it should be dealt with later and during agreement among related parties.

It also refers to the Clause 3 of the part relating to definition of the direct source lines in the article 1 of the Caspian Legal regime Convention regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran's coast condition in the Caspian Sea and the aim of writing the clause is taking special status of Iran and taking it into consideration.
