The legal convention of the Caspian Sea will not address the division of the sea, its baselines, the seabed and subsoil, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday.

Commenting on some reports and media hype on the Caspian Sea summit which is underway in Kazakhstan, Bahram Qasemi said, the convention which is to be signed by the heads of the Caspian Sea littoral countries, will determine the general framework of cooperation and the principles of the Caspian Sea legal regime.

'Given the conditions of the sea, a specific legal regime will be drawn up irrespective of the existing conventions,' Qasemi said.

Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are the five Caspian Sea countries.

Due to the sophistication of the Caspian Sea morphology, reaching results acceptable to all the five littoral countries will require further expert talks, he said.

According to the legal convention of the Sea, no extra-regional military forces are allowed to patrol in the sea or construct military bases, he said, adding that the five countries will not let other countries to use their air space, land and sea to invade other Caspian Sea littoral states.

The convention, as a strategic instrument for the Caspian Sea countries, will turn the region to another pole of regional cooperation aimed at peace, stability, security and development of its members.

The Caspian Sea summit is underway in Kazakhstan's Aktau with participation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
