Iranian, Uzbek FMs discuss bilateral ties

Iranian and Uzbek foreign ministers in a meeting in Samarkand discussed bilateral relations and regional developments on Thursday evening.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Afghanistan Neighboring Countries' Foreign Ministers meeting.

During the meeting, the Iranian and Uzbek foreign ministers discussed mutual cooperation in different areas.

The sides also touched on the most important regional and international developments.

Amirabdollahian appreciated Uzbekistan's professionally excellent hosting of the 4th Meeting of Afghanistan Neighboring Countries' Foreign Minsters and their hospitality for the Iranian diplomatic delegation in that meeting and said that the two countries' comprehensive relations, especially in the economic, transportations and logistical fields are of great importance.

The top Iranian diplomat referred to the historically-old bilateral relations and said that the existing capacities for their improvement are quite a lot, especially keeping in mind the strong will of the highest-ranking officials of the two countries.

He said that the need for coordinating at the two countries' foreign ministerial level for exchange of high-ranking delegations is necessary.

The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiar Saidov, too, in the meeting appreciated his Iranian counterpart's acceptance of his invitation to attend the meeting along with the Iranian diplomatic delegation in Uzbekistan's historical Samarkand city.

Focusing on the latest status of bilateral political, economic and trade cooperation, as well as transportations, and delegation exchange at high-ranking level, the two countries' foreign ministers spoke in detail in this phone talk.

The second quartet meeting of Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan on Afghanistan was held before noon today (Thursday) on April 13 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of Afghanistan's neighboring countries.

Amirabdollahian, Sergei Lavrov, Qin Gang and Hina Rabbani, were taking part in the meeting and discussed the current situation in Afghanistan.

The first quartet meeting was held on September 16, 2022 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Summit in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
