Iranian FM Highlights IRGC's Vital Role in Fight against Terrorism

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian strongly denounced the Swedish parliament’s move to blacklist the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, stressing that the IRGC has played a major role in fighting terrorism.

“The IRGC, as a sovereign institution, bears the responsibility of safeguarding national and border security and holds the paramount position in combating terrorism in the region,” Amirabdollahian said during a telephone conversation with his Irish counterpart Michael Martin.

“This move (by Sweden) has been instigated by terrorist elements and individuals rejected by the Iranian nation,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister stressed the importance of seizing available opportunities for the mutual benefit of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Ireland, focusing on various areas of cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Martin expressed gratitude for the Islamic Republic of Iran's recent decision to release an Irish national, emphasizing Dublin’s willingness to collaborate with Tehran.

Ireland has no interest in making unfounded judgments about the IRGC and recognizes Iran's significant role in the fight against terrorism, he affirmed.

The Irish foreign minister also commended Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, expressing Ireland's support for efforts to lift anti-Iran sanctions.

He also extended an invitation to Iran’s foreign minister to visit Ireland and said he hopes to visit Tehran in the near future.
