Iran determined to develop ties with neighbors, Islamic countries: Spox

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani says the Iranian government is determined to develop relations with neighboring countries and Islamic nations.

Kanaani made the remark on Tuesday in response to a question by IRNA regarding recent reports that Iran and Egypt are considering restoring their diplomatic ties.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for implementing foreign policy and is the only official source for expressing positions and opinions on foreign relations,” he asserted.

However, the official reiterated, “As we have repeatedly said before, the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to develop relations with its neighbors and Islamic countries.”

In an exclusive interview with IRNA published on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Tehran and Cairo were in direct contact with each other through their interests sections.

“We have always welcomed the development of relations between Tehran and Cairo,” Amirabdollahian said.
