Iran's Raisi in Indonesia for official visit

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in the Indonesian capital Jakarta for state visit to the South East Asian country.

Raisi’s two-day visit to Indonesia began on Tuesday on an invitation by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. It is the first presidential visit between the two countries in 17 years.

Before departing Tehran for Jakarta, the Iranian president told reporters at the airport that his visit to Indonesia is aimed at signing agreements on various issues and boost bilateral ties.

As he underlined, Iran and Indonesia are both seeking sustainable peace in their respective regions.

The Indonesian president officially welcomed his visiting Iranian counterpart at the Merdeka Palace in the center of Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

After taking joint photos at the welcoming ceremony, the two presidents introduced members of their delegations to each other.

Some 21 gun salutes were fired in honor of the Iranian president and his entourage upon his arrival in the presidential palace of Indonesia,

Then, the two presidents planted two saplings on the palace ground in a sign of peace and friendship.

Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two presidents kicked off private talks in Merdeka Palace before high-ranking delegations of the two countries held talks on the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The officials are expected to ink important documents on bilateral collaborations after the talks on Tuesday.
