No one can threaten powerful Iran: Defense minister

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani says the Islamic Republic is at a stage of power and capability that no one can threaten it.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of a Wednesday cabinet session in Tehran after the Pentagon announced plans to send additional fighter jets and naval assets to the Persian Gulf region despite Iran’s warning.

“The Secretary of Defense has ordered the deployment of the destroyer USS Thomas Hudner, F-35 fighters and F-16 fighters to … defend US interests and safeguard freedom of navigation in the region,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters on Monday.

Ashtiani added, “The US pursues its own goals, but the Islamic Republic of Iran is basically at a stage of power and capability that no one can threaten it.”

In similar remarks on Tuesday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said thanks to Iran's “sustainable deterrence”, the enemies have stopped talking about the military option against the country.

Ashtiani confirmed those remarks, saying Iran plays an important regional and international role, which indicates that the country is in progress.

“The honesty and strength of the Islamic Republic on the world stage, our presence in different regions, and our regional power show that other countries have a great desire to have relations with the Islamic Republic,” the defense minister added.
