Iran summons British ambassador for posting interventionist contents

British Ambassador to Iran Simon Shercliff was summoned to Iran's foreign ministry on Wednesday for posting interventionist contents in a social media page on Iranian National Reporter Day.

Director of West Europe Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed Iran’s strong protest to the ambassador’s stances which he said run contrary to diplomatic conventions, customs and regulations.

He added that unwise, irresponsible, undiplomatic contents are regarded as a clear example of interference in internal affairs and are unacceptable.

Referring to some destructive measures by certain London-based media against the Islamic Republic of Iran under the pretext of freedom of expression, the Iranian foreign ministry official said that with its indefensible record in dealing with the Iranian nation, the UK government is not in the position to comment about the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“This is the Islamic Republic of Iran and we will not allow the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran to be neglected with arbitrary actions," he concluded.

The British ambassador, for his part, reiterated his government’s determination to preserve respectful relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
