Stability and security of the region are Iran’s top priorities, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks in reaction to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent speech delivered in Bahrain about Iran's role in Iraq.

Stability and security of the region are Iran’s top priority and these cannot be realized without having an accurate understanding of the conditions and distinguishing stabilizing factors and anarchist players who support terrorists, the official added.

He said that it seems that President Erdogan has expressed such remarks excitedly and under influence of the atmosphere.

Qasemi noted that among all regional leaders, Erdogan is more informed than others of Iran's stabilizing and constructive role in the region, Iraq in particular.

Iran’s positive role in Iraq is based on a legal request of Iraqi government to fight Takfiris and terrorist groups which the domain of their evil doing have been extended also to Turkey, he added.

The official said that covert and explicit support for terrorist groups and manipulation of them for political purposes and in the meantime disrespecting neighboring countries’ national sovereignty has complicated the situation of region and is a source of concern for the region’s stability.
