Two Iranian fishermen who had been detained by the Saudi coast guards for entering Saudi territorial waters were set free on Friday, a local Iranian official said.

Head of public relations of Fishery Department in Bushehr Province Ardeshir Yarahmadi told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the two fishermen, from Kharg Island, were detained on October 24 when entering the Saudi waters after the engine of their boat broke down.

The detained fishermen were set free following a series of contacts between foreign ministries of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Kharg Island is 57 kilometers northwest of Bushehr in the Persian Gulf. The island is the departure point of more than 90 percent of Iran's exported oil.
