Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday Iran and South Korea should not let the 'political events and illegal sanctions' undermine the historical relations between the two nations.

'Talks and meetings between the two countries' officials have always resulted in positive achievements,' President Rouhani said in a meeting with new Ambassador of the East Asian country, Jeong-Hyun Ryu.

Referring to various cooperation among Iranian and Korean companies particularly in the field of energy, President Rouhani said, 'Iran can be a sustainable, reliable source for South Korea's energy supply.'

At the meeting the new Korean ambassador submitted his credentials to the Iranian President.

Jeong-Hyun Ryu said relations between Seoul and Tehran have been on a faster track during the five recent years.

The new Korean envoy vowed that he would spare no effort to enhance further relations between the two countries.
