Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran has always considered Qatar as a friendly country and emphasized that closer bilateral ties is beneficial for both countries.

President Rouhani made the remarks at a meeting with Qatar's new Ambassador Mohammed Hamad Saad al-Fahid al-Hajeri on Tuesday.

Referring to the warm relations between Iran and Qatar, Rouhani said the two countries are closer to each other than before on various issues, particularly on regional ones, and the process should be enhanced.

Tehran is seeking peace and security in the region as well as in the sensitive waterway of the Persian Gulf, he said.

'Meddling in internal affairs of other countries by neighbors is not acceptable,' the Iranian president said.

Qatar is a mature, big nation and the authorities are managing the country's affairs wisely, Rouhani said, adding, 'Therefore Tehran believes that nobody is allowed to decide for Qatari people and government.'

The Qatari ambassador, for his part, emphasized the importance of relations with Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that Doha is seriously trying to promote the ties in line with the two countries' interests.
