Lavrov, in a detailed interview with RIA Novosti, continued, 'The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the safe area of Idlib was possible with the decisions that we made in Astana negotiations for the creation of four secure areas in Syria.'

Referring to the progress that has been made in resolving the Syrian problem with Russia, Iran and Turkey cooperation, Lavrov said, “Relations with each of these countries have their own characteristics; Russia is partnering with Iran and Turkey to resolve the Syrian crisis within the framework of Astana talks.

He commended Astana talks, adding that this cooperation mechanism was successful and was based on decisions of the Security Council Resolution 2254.

Russia's foreign minister also referred to the Syrian constitutional committee as another important achievement of Astana talks adding, “With Iran, Russia, and Turkey’s mediation recently the list of candidates for membership in the Syrian constitution committee was sent to the UN Secretary-General's Representative in Syria.

'The United States constantly violates the Security Council resolution on the sovereignty and independence of Syria,' said the Russian Foreign Minister, reiterating that the Russian president is ready to meet with the President of the US at any time.

'Therefore, it's not easy to solve the problem of illegal US military presence in Syria, in the event that the United States permanently overlooks Syria's sovereignty, independence, integrity and territorial integrity,' he said.
