Iran, Syria to facilitate bank transactions

Governpr of the Central Bank of Iran and the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Syria emphasized on the expansion of banking relations between the two countries based on the agreement on economic cooperation.

In a meeting between Abdel-Naser Hemmati and Mohammad Samer al-Khalil, which was held at the central bank building and aimed at examining strategies for developing monetary and banking exchanges between Iran and Syria, issues such as exchanging bank accounts, facilitating the transfer of money between the two countries, opening of commercial bank relations and the creation of a joint bank were discussed.

Hemmati said the expansion of banking relations was a prerequisite for the development of trade exchanges between the two countries to implement the agreement on economic cooperation, and said, 'The implementation and expansion of trade exchanges in national currency of the two countries has been on the agenda and should be gradually moving towards the elimination of foreign exchanges (forex) in bilateral trade.' 

The governor of the Central Bank of Iran emphasized Tehran's readiness for the development of economic relations with Damascus, referring to the strategic relations between Iran and Syria and the failure of the conspiracies of the enemies against the Syrian people.

'The expansion of banking relations between the two countries is an important part of the long-term economic cooperation agreement between Iran and Syria, and the central banks of the two countries play an important role in facilitating trade relations,' the Syrian economy minister said, referring to the long history of friendly relations between Iran and Syria.
