Iran: UK Foreign Secretary remarks intervention in internal affairs

The hasty and false allegations made by UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt against Iran shows lack of knowledge and is an intervention in the internal affairs of an independent state, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Bahram Qasemi expressed regret over interventionist and unseemly claims made against Iran, and said unfortunately the UK Foreign Secretary has recently commented on issues which is not basically his business.

Qasemi urged Hunt to take a look at background of the British government in the Middle East and to review the humanitarian disasters and crises which have happened for people in the Middle East due to UK government's policies and support of the terrorist groups and aggressors.

Taking a look at conditions in Yemen, Syria, and Palestine namely diseases, damages, homelessness, poverty and hunger makes clear the role of UK government and the measures taken by those countries which receive billions of dollars arms from the UK to fan the flame of war and hatred in the region.

He urged these governments to be ashamed of supporting aggressors to Yemen and sending arms.

Hunt in his interventionist remarks criticized the continuation of Nazanin Zaghari's imprisonment.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who worked for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was arrested in Kerman in April 2016 with charges relating to national security; she has been sentenced to five years in jail.

Soon after the arrest, the Islamic Rvolution Guard Corps (IRGC) in Kerman wrote in a statement, “In a sophisticated intelligence operation in the virtual space and real life, one of the foreign-affiliated ringleaders who had various missions to materialize the menacing designs of the enemies of the Islamic Establishment, was recognized and arrested.”
