Iran calls for release of Press TV anchor in US custody

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday called for immediate release of Press TV anchor who is presently in the US custody.

'The custody of Iran's reporter in the US is highly political and she should be released immediately,' Zarif said.

In the meantime, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi condemned the US for arresting Press TV correspondent Marzieh Hashemi (Melanie Franklin) and called for her immediate and unconditional release.

Qasemi strongly condemned the illegal arrest of Press TV journalist and mistreating her by the US government in Washington.

'Regrettably, she was deprived of any access or contact to the outside of her detention house for two days and misbehavior of the US white-collars to this Muslim-American national was blatant violation of human rights and rights of citizenship while ignoring legitimate rights of a Muslim woman,' he said.

The misbehavior of the US government indicates that the US does not abide by any principles protecting rights of those criticizing the system and is now turned to a dangerous country for reporters.
