Iran into quarter-finals with solid performance against Oman

Three-time champions Iran defeated Oman 2-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday.

Iran recovered from an early penalty scare to take control and book their place in the quarter finals of the Asian Cup, thanks to goals from Jahanbakhsh and captain Dejagah.

Iran definitely not at their best tonight, but did what they needed to do to overcome an Oman side who had a couple of chances in the first half (including that saved penalty). In the second half Iran showed their physical presence and decent organization to ensure Oman didn't have a chance of getting back into it, as.com reported.

Iran will now play China, who defeated Thailand 2-1 in another encounter played earlier in the evening at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

Iran with this win has an opportunity to break their jinx as they have not won an Asian Cup knockout game since 2004, losing at the quarter-final stage in each of the last three tournaments.
