US nuclear tech transfer to S. Arabia 'hypocrisy': Zarif

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif has blasted the US for its double standards, calling Washington's transfer of nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia an instance of 'hypocrisy'.

'Day by day it becomes clearer to the world what was always clear to us: neither human rights nor a nuclear program have been the real concern of the U.S. First a dismembered journalist; now illicit sale of nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia fully expose #USHypocrisy,' Zarif wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

The foreign minister's latest tweet came hours after reports were released on the Donald Trump's government efforts to bypass the US Congress in transferring the nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia.

Analysts expressed concern that Saudi Arabia might use the technology to make nuclear weapons.

Last year, Trump unilaterally pulled the US out of a nuclear deal with Iran after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Tehran's commitment to its obligations under the deal.

Zarif also referred to the US inactive stance on the murder of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at Riyadh's Consulate General in Istanbul in October 2018 as an instance of Washington's silence on Saudi Arabia's human rights violations.
