Pres. Rouhani urges developing multilateral ties in region

Iranian President called for developing multilateral cooperation among regional countries as well as bilateral relations in Transit, railway and fighting terrorism.

President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks Tuesday addressing a meeting with Former Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi.

Expressing happiness over Iraqi officials' activities to develop their country, he said fortunately the relations between Iran and Iraq have always been positive.

Referring to the fact that Iran and Iraq together with other regional countries like Turkey play effective role in the region, Rouhani urged developing relations between political activists and also between universities of two countries.

Meanwhile, al-Abadi described as important President Rouhani's trip to Iraq saying both countries have had close relations in fighting terrorism in the region.

He urged making attempts to develop relations in economic, cultural and trade fields.

He went on to say that all Iraqi parties and politicians support promoting relations with Iran and no factor will damage strategic ties between two countries.

Iran's president arrived in Baghdad earlier on Monday.

President Rouhani's visit to Iraq is taking place upon an official invitation of his counterpart Barham Salih and also Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

During his three-day stay in Iraq, President Rouhani is also to confer with the senior Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani.

Exploring avenues for promoting bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural fields are among the main objectives of the Iranian president’s official visit to Iraq.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif travelled to Iraq on Saturday to do the necessary arrangements for President Rouhani’s official visit to the neighboring state.
