Iran introduces US gov’t as sponsor of terrorism, its forces in West Asia terrorist group

Following the US antagonistic move to place name of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on list of terrorist groups, Supreme Council of National Security introduced US government as sponsor of terrorism and US Central Command called CENTCOM as among the terrorist groups.

The council strongly condemned the US unlawful and dangerous move in branding the IRGC as foreign terrorist group.

It also described the baseless measure as a major threat to the international and regional peace and security, considering it a vivid violation of international laws and UN Charter.

“Unlike the US and its regional allies which have always sponsored terrorist and extremist groups in West Asia, IRGC has always been in the frontline of fighting terrorism and extremism in the region, as the role of the sacrificial and revolutionary force in countering Al-Qaeda, Daesh, Al-Nusra and other terrorist groups in the region is acknowledged by the people and affected governments,” it said.

Iran announced that the US government is sponsor of terrorism and CENTCOM as well as all forces affiliated to it are terrorist groups, in a retaliatory move against the US unwise and illegal measure, the council said.

“The command shoulders executing terrorist policies of the US government against West Asia, as it has endangered Iran’s security and lives of the innocent Iranians and non-Iranians,” it said, referring to deliberate attack on Iran’s passenger plane in 1988 and involvement in massacre of the Yemenis and other civilians in West Asia.

The US should stand accountable for all consequences of the adventurist measure, Supreme National Security Council said.
