Pres Rouhani urges developing tourism infrastructures

Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Ali Asghar Munesan says President Hassan Rouhani has emphasized the importance of developing tourism infrastructures.

Munesan made the remarks about his meeting with Rouhani to present a report of ICHTO’s plans for the current Iranian calendar year.

He added that Rouhani said increasing the number of hotels would help enhance ICHTO’s role in recreation field.

Referring to damages inflicted by recent floods to cultural heritage, Rouhani underlined following up renovation of damaged sites, Munesan said.

He went on to say that despite political pressures, ICHTO could register Sasanian Empire ancient site in Fars Province.

He also pointed to unprecedented increase in the number of tourists, international events like Hamedan 2018, World Tourism Organization meeting in Iran, Tehran International Tourism Exhibition and promoting the standard of tourism services as important in improving the indices of Iran tourism industry in the domestic and global level.

Earlier, Munesan said the problems and sanctions imposed by the United States did not prevent the growth of this industry, but also statistics show the growth in this field.

He added, “Iran's economy needs to have other incomes, such as the tourism industry, along with oil, non-oil revenues and taxes.'
