Iran, Pakistan stress implementation of JCPOA

At the end of their meeting on Monday President Rouhani and the Pakistani prime minister issued a final statement.

In the joint statement, the two sides referred to Iran's commitment to its obligations enshrined in the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and urged other sides to be bound to their commitments.

Iran and Pakistan also agreed to hold the tenth rounds of Iran-Pakistan Interior Ministry's security committees on May-June, 2019 in Islamabad, the statement added.

It said that the next meeting of joint consular committees of Iran and Pakistan will be held in the second half of this Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2019).

Tehran and Islamabad agreed to hold the second rounds of the two countries' boder commissions in April-May, 2019, the statement said.

Iran and Pakistan in their statement stressed development of their cooperation in energy sector, including export of electricity from Iran to Pakistan.

They also agreed to hold the 21st rounds of joint economic committees of two countries in the second half of this Iranian calendar year in Pakistan.

Iran and Pakistan in their joint statement stressed improving regional cooperation and continuing the fight against terrorism.

They also welcomed execution of bilateral and multilateral transit agreements, including China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Iran and Pakistan stressed the necessity of resolution of Jammu and Kashmir issue through peaceful means based on the UN Security Council's resolutions.

In their joint statement, Iran and Pakistan also called for establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Iranian president is expected to pay a visit to Pakistan in the near future upon an official invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, the statement concluded.

Imran Khan arrived in Tehran late on Sunday at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation for official talks with the Iranian senior officials.

Prior to Tehran, Pakistani PM was in the holy city of Mashad on pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.

He is currently in Iran at the invitation of President Hassan Rouhani, his first visit to Iran as the county’s prime minister.
