Official: Museums, place for cultural cooperation

Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Ali Asghar Munesan said on Sunday that museums are the most important place for cultural exchanges in the world.

Speaking in a meeting held on the occasion of International Museum Day, Munesan said that the Museums around the world are the modern place for cultural dialogue and recreation.

Museums are used to explore the cultural cooperation and are one of the most important cultural education centers in the world, he added.

He said that Iran has held joint exhibits with many museums in the world, referring to over 600,000 visitors who thronged the Netherlands exhibit.

Munesan pointed to the fact that important cultural researches are being done in museums, saying museums help resolve problems in the world and bring the nations closer to each other. 

Meanwhile, Director of UNESCO office in Tehran Cvetan Cvetkovski described museums as the most important cultural link among countries.

He encouraged people to develop culture of joining the supporters of the museums.

Cvetkovski appreciated museums for preserving the culture, saying today; museums are considered as a cultural hub for preserving the cultures and serve as liaison among nations to build innovative and better ways to communicate with one another. 

Created in 1946, the International Council of Museums is a non-governmental organization maintaining formal relations with UNESCO and having a consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
