Mohammad Reza Kargar said at a meeting on the occasion of the World Museum Day and the commemoration of the Cultural Heritage Week, 'We cannot consider the development of a society merely as launching a museum by the government. Costing Billions of rials for museum creation by the government are not considered social development and its material facilities are not there.'
He announced a 250 percent increase in the establishment of nongovernmental museums, and said that there are currently 129 private museums in the country. In recent years, we are witnessing a movement in which people are interested in the cultural heritage, museums and history of the homeland, and are keen on cooperating in the mentioned fields.
Director General of Museums Department announced that 25 million people visited the museums of the country last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2019).
