Zarif: US economic warfare is total disregard of Int'l Law

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in an interview with CNN castigated the US economic warfare in total disregard of the International Law, urging Washington to bring animosity against Iran to an end.

Zarif said: 'There will be painful consequences if there is an escalation,' adding that Iran is not interested in escalation of tensions.

Decrying that 'Sanctions were 'depriving citizens of their means of livelihood', Zarif said: 'Having all these military assets in a small area of the Persian Gulf is in of itself prone to accidents.'

'Extreme prudence is required and the United States is playing a very, very dangerous game.'

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif stressed 'Iran never negotiates with coercion. You cannot threaten any Iranian and expect them to engage. The way to do it is through respect, not through threats.'

'All we want to do is sell our oil,' Zarif said adding the US was 'just a bully preventing people from buying our oil.'

Earlier in an exclusive with IRNA, Zarif said, 'I am sure that as the Supreme Leader said no war will occur as neither are we seeking a war nor anyone else has the illusion of being able to fight with Iran in the region.'

Zarif argued that there are some people around US President Donald Trump who want to push him towards a war while he has officially said and has stressed recently that he is not seeking war.

He noted that what he described as “Team B” in his New York visit is a reality.
