Addressing a gathering of athletes and national champions late on Saturday, he said disabled athletes create ‘double national pride’, as they are symbol of victory.
“In addition to bringing honor for the country, they also create happiness, joy and pride for the nation,” he said, noting that voice of unity should be heard from the sports fields.
“We should rely on anything helping boost hope, spirit and national resolve,” President Rouhani said, adding that the athletes are expected to promote unity and serve as champions of virtue among the public.
All the people are happy when they see successes of the Iranian athletes in various fields, he said, noting that the nation should feel that it is competing with a country not a team or group.
Slamming the enemies’ sanctions against the Iranian nation, the Iranian president said that the Iranian people left behind hard days and pushed back the enemies.
“The enemies wished in their vain delusion to make Iranian people give in, but despite hard conditions, they resisted bravely against the enemies’ cries,” he said.
“We have demonstrated that we will stand against the bullying powers and we favor logic and negotiation,” he stressed.
