Rouhani hails scientific successes after Islamic Revolution

President Hassan Rouhani on Monday highlighted the scientific and technological achievements gained in the Iranian society after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran today is proud of its scientific successes gained during the past 41 years, the president said at his speech to the 33rd Khwarizmi International Festival opened in Tehran this morning.

President Rouhani expressed happiness that the important scientific festival of Khwarizmi is being held just after the Feb 11 Islamic Revolution victory ceremony and before the February 21 parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.

About the US sanctions against Iran, the president said the pressures could not make the country lose its way.

Iran has been moving towards the right path, the president said.

When the country ranked 61 in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019 after climbing 59 stairs up compared to six years ago, it meant that the Islamic Revolution, people and the researchers are in the right path, he added.

The president cautioned against application of the two-camp partisan divide on the other social issues, saying that bipolarity in the political spectrum must not take foothold on the social issues, especially in the domain of science and technology.

He further appreciated the experts' achievements in modern technology.

He said that the achievements made by Iran in the nuclear technology have been surprising experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) whenever they come to visit the country's nuclear facilities.

Since announcement of reducing commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2019, several centrifuges have been built in the country, the president noted.

On Iran's reciprocal action to reduce commitments to the joint Comprehensive Plan of Action after the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, President Rouhani said that Iran decided to reduce its commitments to the JCPOA, based on Article 26 and 36, and set a deadline for Europeans to remedy breaches on the first anniversary of the US withdrawal on May8, 2019.

Iran is the founder of democracy in the region, said Rouhani adding that Iran respects the constitutional right of the people to vote in elections before the regional countries had parliament.

Elsewhere, he appreciated the Iranian experts who have made the country self-sufficient in producing many kinds of medicines.

Highlighting the US attempt to create national division, the president said that all people should find a bridge to interact instead of building walls.

He called for unity, saying that national solidarity will help breeze through the difficulties and witness a bright future.

At Khwarizmi International Festival, top 15 projects were honored by the president.
