Iran’s VP Asks Governors to Mobilize All Forces in War on Coronavirus

Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri called on provincial governors across the country to mobilize all capacities in containing the spread of the coronavirus and treating those infected with the virus.

Jahangiri on Thursday held telephone conversations with the governors of Tehran, Qom, Alborz, Golestan, Gilan, Mazandaran and Khuzestan, the provinces hit most by the outbreaks of COVID-19 in Iran.

Highlighting the administration’s efforts to supply all regions with the necessary equipment for the fight against the coronavirus, the vice president asked the provincial governors to identify and mobilize all forces and facilities to address the situation of patients and prevent the spread of the disease.

He also praised the country’s medical staff for being at the forefront of the coronavirus fight, and ordered the provincial governors to identify the hoarders of medical supplies and hand them over to the judiciary.

Social solidarity and national resolve will help Iran overcome the crisis soon, Jahangiri added.

Iran’s administration on Thursday extended the closure of all schools and universities nationwide until the end of the current Iranian year (March 19) as the country is struggling with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

The Health Ministry has announced that the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 107 and the total number of confirmed cases to 3,513, including 1,352 patients in the province of Tehran alone.

At least 739 people have recovered from the disease in the country so far.
