Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a message to the 55th meeting of the Union of Islamic Students Association in Europe which was read on Saturday morning by Ahmad Vaezi, the representative of the Leader for University Student Affairs in Europe, at the virtual meeting.
“With each passing day, the importance of the role of the youth in the development of the country and guaranteeing its future is becoming more and more apparent,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
“The public coronavirus catastrophe proved this once again. The enthusiasm, motivation and joyful hope of the youth in this matter, like many other issues in the country, led to scientific and practical openings,” he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that it is one of the greatest honors of the Islamic Revolution, which has been able to give the opportunity to the honorable youth of the country to play such vital roles, adding, “Dear students, in this precious opportunity that is available to you, you are expected to adorn yourself as much as possible with scientific, religious and moral competencies and prepare yourself to play great roles.”
“The Union of Islamic Students Associations has a heavier, and of course more honorable, task in this regard,” he underlined.
Earlier this year, Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari had also hailed efforts made by the country’s youth, saying that the US sanctions have been a blessing for the country’s knowledge-based companies by flourishing their market.
“We cannot say that the sanctions have not been effective, but they have brought many advantages for the knowledge-based companies and created a good market for them,” Sattari said.
He added that the knowledge-based companies in Iran have sold products worth 120,000bln tomans (nearly $26.6bln) last year.
Sattari also said that Iran stands among the first 10 world states in many fields of engineering, including mathematics, construction and biotech, and enjoys the biggest startups in the region.
