Iran ‘categorically’ rejects role in Israeli ship explosion

Iran’s Foreign Ministry “categorically” rejected the Tel Aviv regime’s allegation of Iran’s involvement in a recent explosion on an Israeli-owned ship in the Sea of Oman.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh rejected the accusations made by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the same day, according to the Foreign Ministry’s official website.

“It was indeed an act by Iran, that’s clear,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed during an interview with Kan radio, a local station, according to Reuters.

The car carrier, called the Helios Ray, was struck by an explosion while sailing 100 kilometers (62 miles) off the coast of Oman either on Feb. 25 or the early hours of Feb. 26. None of its crew was hurt and the vessel is now docked in Dubai for repairs.

“Such a blame game only serves the Zionist regime’s corrupt prime minister,” Khatibzadeh said, noting that Netanyahu was afflicted with “a pathological mental obsession with Iran that is nothing new,” Press TV wrote.

The Israeli premier’s claim “reflects the confusion that emanates from the regime's adventuristic behavior both inside and outside the occupied territories,” the spokesman said.

“The regime that has occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the root cause of all insecurities and instabilities,” Khatibzadeh stressed.

The fact that the source of such an allegation is the Zionist regime reveals how baseless the accusation is, he added.

The Iranian official warned the Israeli regime of Tehran’s response to any attempts in creating new tensions.

He also addressed the Israeli prime minister’s rehashing of his claim that he was determined to prevent Tehran from acquiring “nuclear weapons.”

Khatibzadeh said that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran’s doctrine.

“Unfortunately, it is the Western world and the US that have closed their eyes to the Zionist regime’s stockpiled weapons and nuclear bombs,” he added.
