Iran Pres: Govt focusing efforts to contain pandemic, stop sanctions

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said here on Saturday that the government makes its all-out efforts to contain the pandemic at an acceptable level and halt a part of sanctions.

Speaking in the first session of the national anti-coronavirus headquarters in the new Iranian year (started March 20), the president expressed gratitude to the nation for helping the government fight the deadly virus.

Since its outbreak worldwide in December 2019, the coronavirus has killed over 2,780,000, while the number of dead in Iran has passed 62,000.

In regard to the pandemic, Iran is in a more proper condition in a world scale, President Rouhani said.

Economic terrorism, which started against Iran at the beginning of the tenure of the former US President Donald Trump, still continues although Trump has gone, the president noted.

Once, President Rouhani named the US maximum pressure policy on Iran as economic terrorism as Washington during the Trump tenure imposed, as it claimed, the highest level of sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nov 2018, just a few months after it withdrew unilaterally from the landmarks nuclear deal in May.
