Iran says Afghanistan's embassy acts in 1961 Convention framework

Afghanistan's Embassy in Tehran is working in the framework of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement on Sunday.

Khatibzadeh rejected recent reports on the future of Afghan Embassy's activity, saying that the embassy's activity, as with other embassies in Tehran, is within the framework of principles and rules defined by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and no changes outside the convention is possible.

The statement comes as Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi is in Tehran, heading an economic and political delegation to reportedly discuss economic cooperation, including in banking, border markets, mining, business, and sports, with Iranian officials.
