Iran’s FM: Zionists seek to destabilize Syria

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Saturday that the Zionists are seeking to destabilize Syria and increase Syrians’ problems.

Upon his arrival in Damascus, Amirabdollahian told reporters that the Syrian president's recent visit to Tehran marks a new milestone in relations between the two states.

Referring to the importance of his visit to Syria, the top Iranian diplomat added that Iran and Syria are in a new phase of comprehensive cooperation, including in various economic and trade areas.

He highlighted that today is a great opportunity to discuss with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad the latest situation in relations between the two states.

Iran strongly condemns the attempts of the Zionist regime and their aggression on the territorial integrity of Syria, Amirabdollahian stressed, adding that the Zionists seek to destabilize and increase the problems of the people who are returning to their cities and homes in Syria along with the sanctions imposed against the Syrians and Resistance.

The Syrian people, government, and leadership are acting strongly in defending the territorial integrity of their country, he said.

Iran understands Turkey's concerns on security issues and strongly opposes any military attempts with any justification, he underscored, adding that Iran works to resolve the existing misunderstandings between Turkey and Syria through diplomacy and political dialogue.
