Mohsen Naziri-Asl reacted to a recent report by the IAEA, stating that the new report is in fact the update of the agency on remaining safeguards issues, which are not closed in the eyes of Director General Rafael Grossi.
He further stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always underscored the need for interaction and cooperation, noting that the other side is expected to carry out its inherent duty without paying attention to political pressures and questions, which have their roots in plots hatched by third parties that are not a member of any safeguards mechanisms of the IAEA and have scores of nuclear warheads.
The three unimportant claims made by IAEA on the additional protocol date back to two decades ago; nonetheless, Iran has pursued appropriate and constructive interactions with the agency with the aim of resolving the issues, the Iranian representative added.
Underlining that the IAEA needs to maintain its independence and impartiality, he said that the UN nuclear watchdog's member states should avoid putting pressure on the organization or misusing the entity to reach their political objectives.
The Iranian official went on to say that the IAEA report is one-sided and partial.
Instead of praising Iran for its good faith in temporarily implementing the additional protocol within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) even one year after the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal, the IAEA director general has raised the issue as a demand by the IAEA and highlighted the topic, he criticized.
