Geraie reaches final; a bronze 2 gold medals await for Iran athletes

On the first day of 2022 Zagreb Open Greco-Roman Championship three of Iran's wrestlers reached the final and bronze medal competitions.

The first eight weights of the UWW ranking 2023 Zagreb Open Greco-Roman World Championship which began on Friday afternoon is now being pursued.

In 77kg weight Iran's Amin Kavianinezhad faced Azerbaijan Republic's world silver medal winner Sanan Suleymanov, whom he beat and in his 2nd game, too, he beat Oliver Korger from Denmark 9-nil. Kavianinezhad's 3rd match as versus Ricardo Abresia from Italy, who he also beat 1-2 in a technical strike result and this he made his way to the quarter final.

In quarter final Alexandrin Guto, the world silver medal for U23, from Moldavia beat Nezhadinezhad 4-1 and since Alexandrin is in the winners' group, he went to the losers' group. In that group he will face wrestlers from Finland and Lithuania and if he will win those games, he will have to wrestle with Anthonio Coniasvich from Croatia for the bronze medal.

On the other side of the chart, Mohammad-Ali Geraie in his first match beat Juan Ack form Norway 6-5 and Aik Menatsakian from Bulgaria 7-0 (with three warnings from referees) to reach the quarter final. He also won that game versus Per Cur from Norway 11-nil to reach the semifinal.

Geraie also won the semifinal 3-1 in a game with Johny Burr from France to reach the final match. In the final he will face Alexandrin Guto, the world U23 silver medal winner from Moldavia tonight.

In 78kg Iran's Hamid-Reza Badkan gained rest lot for his first match, won the match against Sue Sakabe from Japan 5-1, but lost the next match to Stephan Takach, the U23 gold medal winner from Hungary 2-1, and since his competitor is a finalist, he went to the losers' group for the bronze.

In that group, too, he lost the match to Turpal Bisultanov, the world silver medal winner from Denmark 11-0 to be crossed out from the competitions' round.

On the other side of the chart Iran's Naser Alizadeh got a rest lot for his first match and won Maimiti Kaisair from China 4-0. Also, he won his next match versus Simon Simonovich from Poland 1-1 to reach the quarter final.

In the semifinal Alizadeh beat Ivan Holk from Croatia 7-2 to reach the final match, where he also beat Jalksbari Bertmuratov, the world silver medal winner from Uzbekistan 5-0 to reach the final. In his final match Alizadeh will face the U23 world gold medal winner Stephan from Hungary later tonight.
