Iran, Serbia seek free trade deal to boost ties

Senior Iranian and Serbian foreign ministry officials have underlined the need for Tehran and Belgrade to reach a free trade agreement which they believed would expedite trade between the two nations.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari and Serbia’s Assistant Minister for Economic Diplomacy Jagoda Lazareva met in Tehran on Tuesday where they discussed issues of bilateral importance.

Speaking in the meeting, the Iranian side expressed satisfaction with the rise in bilateral trade between Iran and Serbia over the past one year.

Safari stressed that the upcoming meeting of Iran-Serbia Economic Commission would give a more boost to trade between the two countries.

The Serbian official, for her part, said that Iran is a key country in Serbia’s foreign diplomacy.

Lazareva expressed hope that the commission meeting and a possible free trade agreement would open new windows for further economic and trade cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade.
