Iran reacts to US airstrikes on Iraq, Syria

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani has reacted to the airstrikes launched by the United States on Iraq and Syria early on Saturday.

United States President Joe Biden on Saturday confirmed the US airstrikes on targets in eastern Syria and western Iraq in retaliation for the death of three soldiers on Jan. 28, pledging that the attacks will continue.

Considering the attacks as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria, international law, and a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, the senior Iranian diplomat stressed that last night's attack on Syria and Iraq was another strategic mistake made by the American government, which will have no result other than the escalation of tension and instability in the region.

Kan'ani went on to say that the US military attacks on Iraq, Syria, and Yemen were aimed at serving the goals of the Zionist regime.

Warning about the danger of expanding the scope of war and conflict in the region, he underlined that the continuation of such events is a threat to regional and international peace and security.

The Islamic Republic of Iran once again calls on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to fulfill their duty in preventing illegal and unilateral US attacks in the region, he stressed.

As the Islamic Republic of Iran has stated many times, the tension and crisis in the region is rooted in the occupation of the Israeli regime and the continuation of this regime's military operations in Gaza and the genocide of Palestinians with the unlimited support of the United States, the foreign ministry spokesman noted, citing that the peace and stability will not return to the region unless this problem is solved.
