The death toll from a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 1,644, with 3,408 people reported injured, according to authorities in Myanmar.

As rescue efforts continue, the number of fatalities could keep increasing.

At least 139 people remain missing. The earthquake also affected neighboring Thailand
