The Iranian parliament set up a special joint friendship group to boost parliamentary ties with Syria, Egypt, Palestine and Morocco.

Parliamentary sources said that the Iranian legislature has included all the four Muslim Arab nations in one friendship group due to their proximity and commonalities.

The Iranian parliament has a total number of 24 friendship groups.

Speaking to FNA on Monday, Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi expressed the hope that the new parliamentary friendship group could have a successful record in line with unity among Muslim states and confronting foreign meddling.

Parliamentary friendship groups can serve as a launch pad relations between Iran and other nations, he said.

After the collapse of Hosni Mubarak's regime, the Iranian and Egyptian officials have adopted different measures to resume diplomatic relations and increase mutual cooperation.

Late in August, Iranian Presidents Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Mursi attended bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.

Ahmadinejad and Mursi discussed the Syrian conflict and their nations' diplomatic ties in their first-ever bilateral meeting.
