Iranian director Tahmineh Milani plans to make a sequel to “Ceasefire”, her acclaimed film that broke box office records in Iran in 2006.

“The project is in the preproduction stage and shooting will begin as soon as a production license is issued (by the Culture Ministry),” she told the Persian service of ISNA on Wednesday.

Milani wrote the screenplay for “Ceasefire” based on American writer and art therapist Lucia Capacchione’s “Recovery of Your Inner Child”.

Starring Mohammadreza Golzar and Mahnaz Afshar, the film tells the story of a young couple who are seeking a divorce, but end up realizing that they just need to face their inner child to overcome their problems.

“We know that the divorce rate is tragically high in Iran. Our youth lack good consultation and are very confused about their lives,” Milani said.

“By making this film (‘Ceasefire 2’), we can help couples feel closer together and assist them to decrease tensions in their families especially those who want to have children,” he added.

“Principles” is the last film Milani directed in 2010.

“While costs have increased, I hope this would not result in the production of movies made primarily for reasons of commercial profit,” she stated.

In most of her films, Milani shows men oppressing women in some way. Consequently, the 52-year-old director has been labeled as the feminist filmmaker of Iranian cinema.
