Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham condemned the Wednesday’s terrorist attacks near the Iraqi foreign ministry which killed at least 9 people.

Afkham said that the occurrence of such acts at a time when Iraq’s armed forces are fighting terrorism hand in hand with the country’s people and zealous tribesmen reveals the terrorist groups’ malice against the innocent nation.

Such deplorable acts once again indicated that terrorists adhere to no principles, she said.

Underlining the global community’s responsibility for countering the inhuman phenomenon of terrorism, Afkham expressed the hope that the Arab state will overcome the current problems through national unity and solidarity.

She also extended Tehran's condolences to the Iraqi government and nation over the incident, and sympathized with the victims of the attack.

Three car bombs exploded near Baghdad's heavily-fortified ‘Green Zone’, home to the prime minister's office and several western embassies, killing nine people early on Wednesday, security sources said.

The blasts came a day after two rockets were fired into the Green Zone, Reuters reported.

Two of Wednesday's car bombs were parked opposite the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and killed five people, the sources said.

The other car was driven by a suicide bomber who blew himself and the vehicle up outside a restaurant close to a checkpoint one street away from the Green Zone, killing four people, the sources added.

Another explosion near Khullani Square in central Baghdad left four others dead.
