Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday that Iran and Turkmenistan have unbreakable bonds and Iran will never forget its friend in hard times.

He made the remarks in a gathering of professors and students of International Relations Institute of Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry.

Sources of pride and well-known characters like Makhdoom Quli Feraghi have tied culture of the two countries and we host dear Turkmens in Iran every year to commemorate these great men of history, culture, literature, poem and mysticism.

We are here to celebrate officially the 25th anniversary of close and sincere relations between Iran and Turkmenistan, and we are glad that in a region with chaos, terror and extremism, the two countries, as two secure and stable states, have wide political, economic, cultural relations, Zarif said.

Iran and Turkmenistan are standing together in the region for stability in Afghanistan, tranquility in Central Asia and to fight extremism and terrorism.

He added that our cooperation is not limited to political relations, but it has different dimensions. In the past 25 years we supported each other in international organizations and Iran was the first state to recognize Turkmenistan as an independent state.

Our cooperation in the fields of gas and energy is to be increased and our relations, as two transit route countries will have a bright future.

Zarif said that Iran’s capabilities in the field of technical and engineering had been at disposal of Turkmenistan since its independence.

During his visit to Turkmenistan, Zarif discussed issues of mutual interests with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and his counterpart Rashid Meredow.

He also attended and delivered speech in Iran, Turkmenistan commercial meeting in Ashgabat.

Zarif is to depart Ashgabat on Monday afternoon for Tbilisi, Georgia, and then to Kyrgyzstan.
