President Hassan Rouhani says Tehran and Baku can be a crossroads for linking Asia and Europe.

Speaking to Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran on Tuesday, President Rouhani said Iranian and Azeri governments and nations are determined to expand ties and cooperation, which is noteworthy.

He thanked efforts by Iranian and Azeri officials and ambassadors in the Joint Iran-Azerbaijan Cooperation Commission.

President Rouhani referred to an invitation extended to him by his counterpart to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in the near future and hoped that the visit will result in further expansion of friendships, cooperation and relations.

He noted that Iran-Azerbaijan history and culture are intertwined and efforts should be made to have the two nations enter unbreakable bonds politically, economically and socially.

President Rouhani said the private and public sectors should be encouraged to expand cooperation and embark on joint investment. 'Today, both countries have good relations in various sectors, including industrial, pharmaceutical, car manufacturing, agricultural and tourism domains, while common steps being taken for expansion of relations in other sectors, including transit and joint cooperation in the Caspian Sea.'

President Rouhani highlighted the need for consultation and cooperation between Iranian and Azeri officials for compilation of the Caspian Sea legal regime and planning for regulating joint economic cooperation in the region.

He said joint investment and volume of commercial transactions in recent years have been considerably boosted.

The Azeri minister, for his part asked, for cooperation in energy, transportation, railway, medicine production, auto manufacturing, health, tourism and cultural and academic relations.

He said history and culture of Iranian and Azeri nations are intertwined and expansion of cooperation between the two countries will serve regional peace and security.
