During a meeting between the two countries’ high-ranking delegations, Rouhani appreciated the Chinese government for successfully holding SCO Summit, telling his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping 'Your visit to Tehran in 2016 was a new turning point in bilateral ties, as it put cooperation on the strategic track.'
Noting that China has been Iran’s first trade partner in the past years, Rouhani said that promoting banking cooperation is the biggest backbone for implementing agreements and boosting collaboration.
“The two countries have undertaken very significant projects and strategic cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation and industry,” he said, calling for accelerating the trend of implementation through holding the two countries’ joint commission meetings in short intervals.
Hailing the role of China in concluding Iran nuclear deal known as JCPOA, he said that currently, its role in solidifying JCPOA and implementation of commitments by the other parties is important.
The Chinese president, for his part, said that effective presence of Iran in SCO Summit will contribute to the entity’s international clout.
“The two countries’ resolve to fully implement the deal and strategic cooperation in the field of economy indicate mutual confidence,” he said.
Beijing is determined to continue strategic collaboration with Tehran, he said, adding that the JCPOA is the achievement of multilateralism and guarantees regional peace and cooperation.
“Americans are seeking to change international order according to their will,” he said, noting that China is against unilateral exit and imposing new sanctions and it wants all parties to remain committed to their sides under the deal.
Xi Jinping further noted that the two countries should withstand US unilateralism by increasing contacts and collaboration in the UN and SCO.
China remains in compliance with the JCPOA-related commitments for renovating Arak reactor, he said, noting that collaboration in fighting terrorism and drugs will continue.
Rouhani left Qingdao for Tehran late on Sunday after he attended Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
Rouhani explained Iran’s stances regarding international developments in a speech during the event held from June 19-20.
On the sidelines of the two-day event, Rouhani held talks with the presidents of China, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mongolia and Belarus and Indian prime minister.
The heads of eight member states--China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan--as well as those of the four observer states- Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia participated in the summit.
The Iranian president attended the 18th summit upon an invitation by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Some senior officials, such as the Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh, and Minister of Economy Masoud Karbasian were accompanying President Rouhani in the meeting.
Four documents were signed on fighting narcotic drugs and organized crimes, Iran's role in 'One Belt, One Road' initiative, stock exchange and security cooperation, and academic cooperation.
