Minister of Intelligence Heydar Moslehi said a number of spies who were trying to implement US plans at the upcoming Iran's Majlis (parliament) election were arrested.

According to Khabar Online correspondent, speaking at a news conference after a cabinet session on Sunday, Moslehi added: "We were monitoring the activities of the arrested spies and obtained good information from them."

"Our plan was based on completing our information on the actions taken by the group, finding about the relations between them and then arresting them," he stated.

Moslehi explained that through the virtual and social networks, they were to execute US plans for the ninth parliamentary election in Iran: "The spies were connected to outside Iran through online social network websites. When we completed our information about their moves, we arrested them."

Minister of Intelligence went on to say: "The arrested spies were not a powerful and important team to do a significant work."

He stressed that the Intelligence Ministry provided a full knowledge about the activities of this group at the upcoming Majlis election saying that noticeable documents have been obtained from them. However he didn't give further details.

More than 4500 nominees have registered for the Majlis election by now. The poll is scheduled to be held on March 2, 2012.
