Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said the parliamentary election is a ground for competition not enmity. He remarked in the religious city of Qom on Friday when the 9th Majlis election election was held.

Casting his vote in the ballot box No.1 stationed in the holy shrine of Ma’soumeh (AS), the top Iranian legislator called for people to participate extensively and gloriously at the Majlis election. 3444 qualified nominees ran for the national competition.

"Anyway, from the early morning, people have been in front of the ballot boxes and I hope this process will continue up to the last moments of voting," he said.

Larijani himself registered for the parliamentary election as a candidate from Qom. Four Shiite religious authorities (Maraje') requested for his participation at the 9th Majlis election.

“As the enemies have hostile views to the Islamic Republic of Iran, through our actions we should let them know that in the age of safeguarding Iranian rights, both people and officials are unified and coordinated to construct our country and no one is able to deny it," he stated.

Stressing that elections are the symbols of the Islamic public's character, the Majlis Speaker asserted: "Through participation at such events, Iranian nation makes effort to forge its destiny. So, one can say that all nominees must see the election as a significant event and avoid hostility toward each other in their campaigns."

He went on to say: "Therefore, after the result of the parliamentary election was announced, all who announced their candidacy to run for the vote and serve the Islamic Republic system must respect the trust and votes of people. Even if a nominee was not elected, he/she should comply with the results and help the new lawmakers to serve people."

Elsewhere in his remarks, the representative of Qom in the Majlis referred to some damages caused prior to the election. He had formerly warned that by pursuing their political objectives, some are to make the climate of Majlis election tumultuous.

"In the meantime, some candidates have made statements which should not turn to grudge against each other. Those who have taken steps against Iran's election laws should know that by such moves, they would cause damage to the Islamic Republic system." he noted.

The senior lawmaker had earlier suggested: “Representing people in parliament is a difficult task, particularly at the beginning people expect a lot from lawmakers.

“But if a lawmaker is aware of the problems of the country and has plans for resolving them, taking such responsibility will be helpful and he/she shouldn't withdraw from the task, even if is challenged by some.”
